CCTV Installation

A good CCTV system starts with a walk-through: where people enter, where vehicles park, where cash is handled and where the light changes at night. We plan camera positions around those points before choosing any hardware. We install PoE IP cameras with a network video recorder on site, so footage stays on your premises and you can still watch it on your phone without a cloud subscription.

Planning a video surveillance setup

Surveillance cameras are only as useful as the plan behind them. Every video surveillance setup we propose answers a few questions in writing before any cable is pulled:

  • The purpose of each camera. Watching an area, recognizing a known person or identifying a stranger, each needing a different lens and mounting position.
  • Cable routes. How cable reaches each camera through ceilings, walls or conduit, and where outdoor connections need protection from water.
  • Power and network. Whether the PoE switch or recorder can power every camera, and whether cameras sit on their own network segment, apart from office computers.
  • The recorder's location. Somewhere secure and ventilated, ideally on a UPS, so a thief cannot simply carry the footage away and a short power cut does not stop recording.

Video monitoring and remote monitoring solutions

"Monitoring" can mean two different things. Self-monitoring is you or your staff watching live video and receiving alerts in the phone app, which is how most small systems are used. Professional monitoring means a monitoring center watches alarms or video on your behalf, which requires a contract with that center and a recorder it supports. If you are considering remote monitoring solutions of the second kind, tell us before the hardware is chosen.

Surveillance camera maintenance after installation

Lenses collect dust, salt and spider webs, drives wear out and firmware ages. Surveillance camera maintenance, even a simple routine of checking playback, cleaning lenses and applying firmware updates, keeps the system recording when it matters.

Frequently asked questions

How long does CCTV installation take?

A small home or shop system is a modest job; larger properties with long cable runs, high mounting points or several buildings take longer. The quote states the expected duration.

Can I keep my old coaxial cabling?

Sometimes. HD-over-coax systems can reuse existing coax runs with a new recorder, which avoids recabling. For the sharpest image and the most flexibility, network cable with IP cameras is usually the better long-term choice.

Can CCTV be installed in a rented shop or office?

Usually, yes, but drilling, cable routes and outdoor mounts normally need the landlord's approval, and some buildings have rules about exterior equipment. Check the lease first; surface-mounted cable covers can reduce the changes needed.
